Parent College

The Partnership’s Parent College program is a signature parent empowerment program that encourages parents to hold high academic expectations for their children, create a college-going culture at home, and advocate confidently for their children at school. The yearlong program -- which includes “University Day,” a visit to a four-year college campus -- empowers parents on their rights, roles, and responsibilities through academic workshops designed to help them become engaged and informed advocates for their child’s education.

Parent College is held monthly on Saturdays for seven months in three communities across Los Angeles – Boyle Heights, South LA, and Watts. The family learning sessions celebrate, educate and empower our families. Families choose from the following workshop topics:

  • Academics
  • Reading & understanding report cards
  • Empowerment
  • College access, applications, and financial aid
  • Leadership & advocacy
  • Restorative Communities
  • Health & wellness
  • Parenting & child development

Those who complete four monthly sessions are eligible for program graduation, and ceremonies are held annually in the spring. Also offered as part of the Parent College program is University Day, an annual “field trip” for hundreds of families to visit four-year college campuses in Southern California.
